Harry Potter and the Beginning of the End [Posted Friday, 12/22/06 8:25 am] So. It's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We finally know the title of the last Harry Potter book.
Last. Darn. I've been knowing this day was coming, but I have been dreading it. The last announcement of a Harry Potter book title. Next we'll get the last announcement of a Harry Potter book release date. The last release of a Harry Potter book cover. Perhaps one last bit of teaser text from the last Harry Potter book. And then the last Harry Potter book midnight sales party.
We're living through very special times. We can only imagine what it was like to read something like Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol when it first came out on December 17, 1843. Like that book, the Harry Potter books will be cherished for many, many generations to come. And we were here, as it all happened.
But as exciting as it all is, it's sad too. It was fun lining up for the books at midnight. It was fun reading them when nobody had read them, and no one knew how they came out. And after this final volume, we'll never be able to do that again.
But, perhaps now is not the time for that. Now is the time to wonder about and debate the meaning of the new title. And that's just what fans are doing over at our sister site, Beyond Hogwarts!
Anyway, thanks for the surprise present, Jo! Happy Christmas to everyone!
