John Rhys-Davies
Happy 64th birthday to John Rhys-Davies!
John Rhys-Davies, who was born in Salisbury, England on May 5, 1944, is 64 years old today. John Rhys-Davies plays Gimli son of Gloin, the dwarf, and was also the voice of Treebeard, in the Lord of the Rings movies. Although he played a dwarf, in reality he is actually taller than Rings co-stars Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, and Ian McKellen.

McKellen to play Gandalf in The Hobbit
According to a British film magazine today, Ian McKellen will again take up the robes of Gandalf the Wizard in the cinematic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy classic "The Hobbit." But McKellen's publicist warned that final arrangements were yet to be made. "Of course he wants to do it, but nothing's been agreed or signed," Clair Dobbs said. [more...]

Confirmed: Guillermo del Toro to direct two Hobbit movies
Guillermo del Toro is directing "The Hobbit" and its sequel, New Line Cinema announced Thursday. Guillermo del Toro calls the opportunity to direct "The Hobbit" "an absolute dream come true." The 43-year-old filmmaker will move to New Zealand for four years to make the films back-to-back with executive producer Peter Jackson. [more...]
