Cate Blanchett makes an impression on Martin Scorsese [from MSNBC] Martin Scorsese clearly wanted Lord of the Rings actress Cate Blanchett to play Katharine Hepburn in his film about Howard Hughes. "For the part of Katharine Hepburn, get me the girl who was in ‘Elizabeth,’" he reportedly told his casting director. "If you can’t get her, get me the girl in ‘Veronica Guerin.’ If you can’t get her, get me the girl in ‘The Shipping News.’" Blanchett, of course, played all three roles.
