Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom is using his star power to help the environment - by fronting a new Friends of the Earth drive to raise awareness of climate change.

The Lord of the Rings and Tory actor, 27, is following in the footsteps of Keanu Reeves and Jake Gyllenhaal - who have fronted similar American campaigns - to front the environmental organisation's British appeal.

Friend of the Earth's climate campaigner Bryony Worthington says, "Surveys show a very low level of understanding about climate change among the general public and that's a real barrier to tackling the root causes.

"This campaign should get a whole new public on board so that we really start to make a difference."
