Paperback Deathly Hallows slated for July 2009
The paperback edition of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released on July 7, 2009. This follows the record-breaking release of the hardcover edition, which hit stores at 12:01 a.m. on July 21, 2007 and has so far sold 14 million copies, making it the fastest selling book in publishing history. 'Hogwarts Professor' to lecture on Harry Potter
Author and "Hogwarts Professor" John Granger will present a two-day lecture on J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter books as part of the Honors College Lecture Series on the Baylor campus. Was Severus Snape based on a science teacher at J.K.'s school?
One of JK Rowling's former teachers says he suspects the author may have based one of her Harry Potter characters on him. John Nettleship taught at Wyedean Comprehensive between 1976 and 1983 when JK Rowling was a pupil there. He said he believes Hogwarts teacher Severus Snape may have been partly based on him. Potter court ruling gets attention of citizens law group
The Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University said today they will "work closely" with a new nonprofit that launched on the heels of a judge's copyright ruling involving the Harry Potter books. Their director said, "We are seeing far too many important works being scuttled because of baseless legal threats." [more...]

Scholastic celebrates Harry Potter's 10th with read-a-thon
Scholastic will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by hosting a fan read-thon September 23. On "Harry Potter Cover to Cover Day," muggles of all ages will have a chance to sit in the throne used by Rowling in her US appearances and read from the book. [more...]

Price war hotting up for new Harry Potter
The latest tome from Harry Potter author JK Rowling is still four months from publication, but it has already sparked a price war in the UK. Amazon, Waterstone's and Tesco are all offering the book to pre-order online for £3.49, half the £6.99 cover price. It could be the top-selling book at Christmas. [more...]

Israel bans Arabic Harry Potter
Harry Potter is apparently not welcome in Israel, at least in its Arabic translations imported from Syria and Lebanon. Arab-Israeli publisher Salah Abassi told Israeli public radio on Monday that authorities ordered him to stop importing Arabic-language children's books from the two longtime foes of Israel. [more...]

Harry Potter prequel sold out on first day
All but a handful of the 10,000 copies of What's Your Story? sold within hours of going on sale on Thursday, with customers at Waterstone's booksellers limited to two copies each. Waterstone's said the book would not be reprinted, turning copies into a collector's item. [more...]

The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which Rowling first mentioned in The Deathly Hallows, will go on sale on December 4. Harry Potter drives Scholastic's global sales
Scholastic's global sales were up 15% to $2,205.6m in the year to end-May 2008, driven by strong Harry Potter trade sales of approximately $270m following its US publication of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in July 2007. It also said that a strong performance in the UK, Australia and Asia contributed to the increase. [more...]

Fans rush to snap up Deathly Hallows in Japanese
A throng of Harry Potter fans flocked to book stores on early Wednesday, eagerly awaiting the release of the Japanese translation of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series. The Edinburgh hotel suite where JK Rowling completed the Harry Potter series has become a Mecca for fans across the world, at almost £1000 a night. Renamed the J.K.
